Application
Cat 6 cable is plenum and riser rated. It consists of a solid bare copper conductor, a PVC jacket, and either PE or fluoropolymer insulation. Cat 6 cable is used to support current and next-generation applications utilizing 25 MHz bandwidth. Typically Cat 6 cabling exhibits 27 dB better PSACR @ 100 MHz as compared to Cat 5e. Cat 6 cabling is fully backward compatible with Cat5e cable and Cat5e cable connectors. Riser cables feature polyethylene insulation while plenum versions use fluoropolymer insulation. Both types feature UV and oil-resistant jacketing, but plenum constructions are also low-smoke.
